ACB nabs Naib Tehsildar while accepting Rs 20,000 bribe

ANANTNAG, Mar 25: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested a Naib Tehsildar posted at Arwani in Anantnag district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in a land-related case.
An ACB spokesperson said the ACB received a written complaint alleging that the accused officer, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Dangipora Sozeith Budgam, had demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant’s in-laws for processing an inheritance mutation of land measuring 18 kanals in favour of the complainant’s wife and other family members.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB for legal action, he said.
After receiving the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification which confirmed the demand for bribe.
Subsequently, the ACB spokesperson said, a case FIR number 01/2026 under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered at Police Station ACB Anantnag and investigation was taken up.
During the investigation, he said, a trap team was constituted.
The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 20,000 as bribe, he said.
Accordingly, the accused revenue official was arrested on the spot and the tainted money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, the ACB spokesperson said.
The ACB also conducted a search at the residential house of the accused in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses.
Meanwhile, further investigation in the case is underway.
