ACB nabs JDA official taking bribe

JAMMU, July 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested a junior official of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant in the Ballian Domana area of the district.
Officials said the accused, identified as Kewal Krishan, had allegedly demanded a total bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant for allowing further construction of a double-storey building.
They said the complainant, who did not wish to pay the bribe, approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint.
After verifying the allegations through discreet checks, the ACB registered a case under FIR number 14/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station ACB Jammu, official said.
Following registration of the case, they said, a trap team led by a gazetted officer was constituted.
The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 as the first instalment of the demanded bribe, they said.
“The money was recovered from the accused in the presence of independent witnesses,” officials said.
After the arrest, a search was also conducted at the accused’s residence at Flore Haramkund Gajansoo in Tehsil Marh, District Jammu, in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses, they said.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway.
