ACB nabs Girdawar while accepting bribe

REASI, Feb 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today apprehended a Girdawar in connection with a bribery case.
According to official sources, FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Act has been registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur against Mohd Saleem Banday, Girdawar, Halqa Judda, Tehsil Arnas, District Reasi, for allegedly demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a complainant.
The accused public servant had reportedly demanded a bribe for carrying out the demarcation of the complainant’s ancestral land.

Unwilling to succumb to the corruption demand, the complainant approached the ACB seeking legal action.
Upon receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification, which substantiated the allegations of bribe demand. Following the verification, a formal case was registered and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, a specialized trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP) was constituted.
The team laid a successful trap, during which the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested on the spot in accordance with due process of law, and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession.
It is pertinent to mention that two FIRs had already been registered against the accused at Police Station ACB Udhampur in separate cases.
