ACB files chargesheet in Budgam bribery case

SRINAGAR, Aug 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against a former Naazir in a bribery case.
An ACB official said the chargesheet against Fayaz-ud-din Shora, then Naazir (Senior Assistant) at the office of Tehsildar Khag in Budgam district has been produced before the court of Additional Special Anti-Corruption Judge, Srinagar in connection with FIR number 14/2023 registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to him, the case was registered on August 3, 2023, following a complaint that Shora had demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 for listing an under-trial property dispute before the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, Khag.
He said a trap was laid, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the money.
The bribe amount, according to him, was recovered on the spot, and chemical tests confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein powder on his hands.
He said the investigations concluded that the offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act was established against Shora.
After securing prosecution sanction from the Government, he said, the ACB filed the chargesheet on Tuesday.
As per the ACB official, the court has fixed September 24, 2025, as the next date of hearing in the matter.
