BARAMULLA, Apr 3: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu & Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Baramulla, against a former Naib Tehsildar and a Patwari in a bribery trap case registered at Police Station ACB Baramulla.
The accused have been identified as Altaf Hussain Khan, then Naib Tehsildar Uri, and Pardeep Kumar, Patwari Halqa Uri.
An ACB official said the case originated from a complaint lodged by a resident of Uri in September 2023, alleging that the revenue officials demanded Rs 10 lakh, later reduced to Rs 1 lakh, for providing revenue documents related to a 10 marla land dispute.
Acting on the complaint, he said, ACB laid a trap during which Altaf Hussain Khan was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe.
The tainted amount was recovered from his possession, and he was arrested on the spot and subsequently remanded to custody by the court, the ACB official said.
He said during investigation, the involvement of Patwari Pardeep Kumar also surfaced based on evidence collected.
After completion of the probe and obtaining sanction from the Government of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, the charge-sheet was filed against both accused under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the ACB official said.
According to him, the court has fixed May 2 as the next date of hearing.
Pertinently, this is the seventh charge-sheet filed this year by Police Station ACB Baramulla in corruption cases.
