ACB catches RPF ASI red- handed while taking bribe

JAMMU, Aug 4: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jammu, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a local scrap dealer.
The accused, ASI Mohd Akram Choudhary, had allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant for not arresting or implicating him in a theft case being probed by the RPF. The case had led the RPF team to visit the complainant’s scrap shop. After negotiations, the bribe amount was brought down to Rs 50,000, with Rs 20,000 as the first installment.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which conducted discreet verification and confirmed the demand. Subsequently, FIR Number 16/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at ACB Police Station Jammu.
A trap was laid by a team led by a Gazetted officer. ASI Choudhary was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 20,000 in the presence of independent witnesses. He was immediately arrested and the bribe money was recovered from his possession.
Searches were also conducted at his residence in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses. Further investigation is underway.
