JAMMU, May 20: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu has registered a formal case against several former revenue officers, officials, and private individuals for their alleged involvement in the illegal allotment and sale of State land, causing a major loss to the Government exchequer.
As per an ACB official, a case FIR number 08/2025 under sections 5(1)(d) read with 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt 2006, and Section 120-B of the RPC, has been registered against Ravinder Sharma, then Tehsildar Settlement, Jammu; Mohammad Bashir, then Tehsildar Bahu, Jammu; Mohammad Sarwar Lone, then Naib Tehsildar Bahu; Mohammad Rasheed Malik, then Patwari Chowadhi, along with beneficiary Tara Singh and others at Police Station ACB Jammu
Quoting the enquiry, the ACB official said, the State land was illegally allotted by the revenue officers and officials to Tara Singh, son of Lehna Singh of Deli Rakh Bandu, under Cabinet Order number 578-C of 1954, even though he failed to meet the conditions.
According to him, the order required the beneficiary to cultivate the land personally within six months, failing which the land would be reallocated to another displaced person.
“However, Tara Singh never took possession of the land,” he said.
He said the records showed that the land remained under the name of Nazir Ahmad, son of Alam Deen, as a non-permanent tenant (Gair Muroosi).
“Also, no cultivation entry (Girdawari) was ever made in Tara Singh’s name. Shockingly, a Power of Attorney for the land was issued in favour of Javed Iqbal even before ownership rights were formally granted,” he said.
The accused officers and private individuals allegedly conspired to misuse official positions and manipulated revenue records to transfer valuable State land, which was later sold for crores, he said.
ACB has said that further investigation into the case is underway.
