JAMMU, Apr 1: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Jammu Kashmir, has expressed concern over the J&K Government’s recent decisions, which have raised questions about governance and equality.
“While the Government’s announcement of free travel for women in electric buses is a welcome move towards promoting gender equality, the 7 percent fare hike may disproportionately affect students and the common people. We appreciate the Government’s efforts to empower women, but inconsistencies in the decisions cannot be ignored,” said Sannak Shrivats, State Secretary of ABVP Jammu Kashmir.
Sannak stressed that the Government should reconsider the 7 percent fare hike and explore alternative solutions that do not burden the common people. “The Government should provide concessions to students in electric buses to promote education and equality. The Government should also ensure that its decisions are consistent and do not contradict each other,” he added.
“The fare hike will disproportionately affect students, who are already struggling to make both ends meet. We urge the Government to reconsider its decisions and provide concessions to students and other deserving sections of society,” reiterated Sannak Shrivats.
The ABVP leader said it was surprising that the Government doesn’t offer a 50 percent concession to students in electric buses. This raises questions about the Government’s priorities and commitment to promoting education and equality, he added and hoped that the Government would take their suggestions seriously and work towards creating a more equitable and just society.
