JAMMU, May 2: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Jammu Kashmir, has demanded the immediate release of pending scholarships for students pursuing undergraduate studies outside J&K under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme, administered by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
As per the scheme, eligible students from J&K are provided scholarships, including tuition fee and hostel fee, to pursue their UG studies outside the State. However, students of the 2023-24 batch, currently in their 4th semester, have received scholarships only for the 1st and 2nd semesters while students of 2022-23 batch, currently in 6th semester, have not received scholarship of 4th and 5th semester.
Sannak Shrivats, State Secretary, ABVP Jammu Kashmir said:, “the delay in releasing scholarships is causing significant hardship to our students, who are struggling to continue their education due to financial constraints. AICTE should take immediate action to release the pending scholarships, ensuring that our students can focus on their studies without any financial burden.”
ABVP asked AICTE to rectify the irregularities in PMSSS and expedite the release of scholarships.
