JAMMU, Oct 25: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Jammu Kashmir has strongly condemned the alleged discriminatory and biased shortlisting of colleges and deletion of important subjects in degree colleges of Jammu Province under the University of Jammu framework.
“The recent list issued by the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, reveals a glaring disparity in the allocation of subjects for 4th Year in colleges in Jammu Province. Out of 43 subjects, only 26 have been allotted to colleges in Jammu Province, with several vital subjects like History, Food Science & Technology, Biochemistry, and others removed or limited,” said Sannak Shrivats, State Secretary, ABVP Jammu Kashmir.
He added that the stark contrast between the 26 subjects offered in Jammu Province and the 36 subjects in Kashmir Province is a clear indication of the Government’s bias and neglect towards the students of Jammu Province.
Asking the Government to take immediate corrective action and address this disparity, the ABVP leader said that it’s high time the Government stops playing politics with education and ensures equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their region.
“The students of Jammu Province will not be silenced, and we will continue to fight for our rights until justice is served. We urge the Government to revisit their education policy and ensure that all 43 subjects are offered and retained across colleges of Jammu Province. It’s time for the Government to walk the talk and prove their commitment to providing quality education to all students in J&K,” he said.
ABVP demanded that all 43 subjects be offered and retained across colleges of Jammu Province, the list of shortlisted colleges be reviewed for equal academic representation, and concerns of the student community be addressed transparently.
