SRINAGAR, Apr 12: Family members of Mohammad Ismail Shah who was killed inside Central Jail, Srinagar last week today protested against the jail authorities and demanded a fair investigation in the case.
The family members of Shah accused the jail police for his killing. “If police would have not killed him, then why they didn’t inform us about his fatal injuries before his death in hospital,” Khurshid Shad, Ismail’s eldest son said.
Shah, 50, was killed by Ghulam Hassan Malik, his jail mate by hitting on his head several times with stone. In September 2009, Shah was arrested in a murder case under Section 302 for killing his daughter in law and another person.
“Shah’s case was still under trial in Kulgam court and he was supposed to be released within few years, as the court has not found any evidence about his involvement in the said case,” the protesting family members said. They protesters were taken into preventive custody by the police.
