MENDHAR, June 5: Shaheed Aurangzeb who sacrificed his life for the sake of the country attracted several VVIPs to the Mendhar area in Poonch, but poor people of the village of Aurangzeb in Salani, are denied the basic facilities.
Several Government schemes are not reaching out to the poor and hapless people of this remote area. Two such cases have come to light at Salani village, a remote area of Mankot tehsil of Mendhar sub division of Poonch district, where people have today accused the Rural Development Department , for not providing benefit of the Scheme Prime Minister Awas Yojna (PMAY) of the Government of India.
Mohammad Rashid and Mohammad Hussain, the local residents have alleged that they approached Rural Development Department (RDD) Mankot many times and also went to the BDO office, but no one there paid any heed to their requests. The real deserving people were not given place in the list of RDD Mankote. They alleged favouritism and unfair practice in this exercise and demanded inquiry by the Director RDD Jammu. These extremely poor villagers said they had no money to grease the palms of some officials therefore, were not included in the list. They sought intervention of Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory to J&K in this regard.
Abdul Khaliq Chouhan, Sarpanch Salani Panchayat said that RDD Department had taken names of poor people of his area from him but later some very deserving names were found missing. We will not tolerate this. He said that our people are extremely helpless in this difficult time. Their houses are in shambles. They are facing threat of house collapse . Sarpanch said District Development Commissioner Poonch should hold probe into the matter.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Mendhar, Dr Sahil Jandayal when contacted, told that the people of Salani village have also told him about this matter. He said the matter was taken up with the BDO concerned.
