Militant killed in Kalakote

RAJOURI, June 4: In an encounter after several years in interiors of this border district, security forces tonight gunned down a militant at village Panjah Mehari in Kalakote tehsil.
The militant was spotted at the village by some locals who sounded Army and police. Troops immediately rushed to the spot and engaged the militants in gunbattle. Police teams also joined the operation.
DIG Rajouri-Poonch range Vivek Gupta and SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli along with senior police officers from Nowshera and Kalakote rushed to the spot.
In an hour-long encounter, one militant was gunned down by the troops. After that there was no firing at the spot. However, security forces haven’t closed the operation and will conduct fresh searches tomorrow morning.
There were no casualties on security forces side.
Security forces were trying to ascertain from where the militant reached Kalakote which is an interior area far away from the Line of Control (LoC).
The militant doesn’t appear to be local.
Few days back, Army had killed three militants on the LoC at Kalal in Nowshera sector.
Sources said one AK rifle, four anti-personnel mines, Pakistan made medicines, blanket and some other items were recovered from the possession of slain militant.
This was after several years that an encounter has took place in the interiors of Rajouri district.
