JAMMU, Apr 8: All Party Action Committee of Chenab Valley Autonomous Hill Development Council has expressed its displeasure over the attitude of coalition partners-Congress and National Conference as also the main Opposition party PDP for their utter silence over the Chenab Valley Hill Development Council issue during the month long Assembly session.
In a meeting of the office bearers of the All Party Action Committee held here under the chairmanship of former MP and chief patron, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, the Speakers expressed their dismay over the attitude and the silence of the members of all the main parties and even the elected representatives from this Chenab Valley region.
Mr Rehman and other Speakers during the meeting charged the NC and PDP with their betrayal to the people of this region to whom they had promised during the election campaign grating Hill Development Council status. These parties had included this even in their manifesto. Not to talk of bringing a bill on the issue, even the members from the Chenab Valley region did not raise the issue for discussion in the House. The Legislators from the CV region are mainly responsible for the neglect of the people from this belt.
Former MP pointed out that the APAC is demanding Hill Development Council status for the area on the pattern of Leh and Kargil but despite assurance nothing has been done so far in this regard by these parties. This area has been most backward and people are the sufferers. This region is richest in hydel potential and mineral wealth but it has remained as most backward till today.
The APAC members said that people of the area have now resolved that they will support the candidates in 2014 elections who will support setting up of Autonomous Hill Development Council in the region. It was also resolved to launch an awareness campaign in Chenab Valley region in this regard. Ex-MLA Jalal-ud-Din Qazi, Ram Singh Chauhan general secretary, Ghulam Qadir Mughal, Bashir Ahmed Reshi, K K Rao and others also spoke on the occasion.
