PHE employees give 15-day ultimatum

JAMMU, Apr 8: Public Health Engineering Employees Welfare Association has given 15-day ultimatum to the higher authorities in the department to accept their demand failing which they will be compelled to resort to the agitational path.
Addressing a press conference here today president of the Association Balwinder Singh and spokesman Swarn Singh alleged that many workers in the PHE are facing exploitation and they are not being paid regularly. They are being forced to work under very low rates. The daily rated/ consolidated and CP workers go unpaid for months together, both said.
They said that Government has come up with an order that the daily wagers engaged in violation of J&K Civil Services Special Provisions Act after 1995 may be ousted. Finance minister has recently claimed this on the floor of the Assembly and Legislative Council also. It is very strange that same Government authorities engaged these daily wagers on need basis without bothering for their fate and now it has taken decision to throw them out.
If this new order is implemented many families will go to starvation and the workers will be left jobless. They said the Association will strongly oppose this move of the Government. They urged upon the Government to revoke such orders and review its decision on humanitarian grounds. If the Government failed to revoke this order PHEEWA will be forced to resort to the agitational path in the entire State, they maintained.
General secretary Balbir Rahi of the association and other senior office bearers Ravi Kant and Kuldeep Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
