SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Senior Vice President J&K Peoples Conference and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil today urged upon the Government to make essential commodities and electricity supply available during the holy month of Ramadhan to facilitate the people offer prayers at homes.
He also said that the Government should take immediate steps to address the genuine grievances of causal labourers working in different departments like power, PHE, fisheries, forest, wildlife etc and release their wages without any delay as the poor daily wagers are worst hit in the ongoing lockdown.
Vakil said: “It is these daily wagers who keep the departments functional during odd hours but it is unfortunate and surprising that they are deprived of their wages for the last over six months while the Government is just a mute spectator on this sensitive issue by giving a deaf ear to it.”
He further said that every successive Government has deceived the daily wagers and exploited them for their political ends and nobody has bothered to address their genuine grievances.
Vakil urged upon J&K Lieutenant Governor to formulate a policy to regularize daily wagers without delay as thousands of daily wagers are facing a lot of problems in making their both ends meet.
