POONCH, Apr 21: Former MLA Surankote, Ch Mohd Akram has said that it’s very unfortunate that a Commission constituted to study the social and educational backwardness of different communities including ST and SC has setup but none of the members is from Scheduled Tribe community which is the most downtrodden and largest tribal community of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press statement here Ch Akram demanded that J&K Government must reconstitute the Commission and include members from ST community.
Though he termed it a good step which could become a mean of welfare and up-liftment of the marginalised communities, yet it came as a shocker to the most deprived tribal community that none of the member from the ST community is part of the Commission.
Ex-MLA said that Schedule Tribe population of Jammu and Kashmir is around 15 lakh and are most marginalized and deprived. They are at the bottom rung of the society. Inclusion of member from ST community in the Commission is of extreme importance as they will share the first hand experience and ground realities of the deprivations. How can a commission will come up with the findings regarding social and educational backwardness of different communities if the commission doesn’t have any representation from the same section of the society, he asked.
Ch Akram appealed to the LG, GC Murmu kindly reconstitute the commission and appoint members from the Schedule Tribe community.
