LEH, Apr 7: Member Parliament Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in a video conference held this evening with representatives of various student bodies of Ladakhi based in cities outside Ladakh, took stock of the grievances of the local students stranded outside the UT.
Representatives of about 13 Ladakhi students bodies including ALSAJ (All Ladakh Student Association, Jammu), LSA (Ladakh Student Association, Chandigarh), LSWSD (Ladakh Student Welfare Society, Delhi), AKSAD (All Kargil Ladakh Students Association Delhi), AZSAJ All Zanskar Student Association (Jammu), SAOLJ ) Jammu, (SILSA) Bengaluru, All Student Association Ladakh – Nagpur, ALSUD (All Ladakh Student Union, Dehradun), AKSUD (All Kargil Student Union, Dehradun) and AKSAC (All Kargil Ladakh students association Chandigarh) participated in the meeting.
During 2-hour long video conference, the representatives of student bodies informed the MP that several students and pilgrims from Ladakh are stranded in different parts of India including Delhi, Jammu, Chandigarh and Banglore and are facing monetary and food shortage, which need to be addressed immediately.
The student representatives urged the MP to depute a Liaison officer to look into the matter of the Ladakhi students and pilgrims stranded outside Ladakh, allocate movement passes for student unions for emergency situations, allocate some funds for students facing monetary and food shortage, devise plan for evacuating students, patients and pilgrims and arrange special flights to Ladakh for evacuating them.
The MP later took up the matter with Sumera Shaifi, Nodal Officer for coordinating and redressing the grievances of the students studying outside the UT, by the MP, for their redressal.
