8 detained for questioning in Bhardwaj murder case

NEW DELHI: Eight people, including slain BSP leader Deepak Bhardwaj’s wife, were detained for questioning in the BSP leader and business tycoon Bhardwaj murder case by the Delhi Police, reports said today.
The 62-year-old real estate tycoon and BSP leader was shot dead on Tuesday by two unidentified men in his farmhouse here.
The police is tight-lipped on the developments in the case fearing that divulging too much about it might hurt the investigation.
Reports say Bhardwaj’s wife was questioned as police wanted to know if she had a grudge against her husband since she was living separately in Dwarka with younger son Nitish for several months.
Quoting the police officer, who did not want to be named, they said police along with 20 others also questioned Bhardwaj’s son Nitesh, 32, since he had filed a police case against his father a few months ago. His father had also lodged a complaint against him.
Meanwhile, the city police have impounded 15 grey-coloured Skoda cars from north and northwest Delhi, but were yet to confirm whether they got the car used in the crime.
The police were investigating the case with various angles including rivalry over property and family dispute.
The police believed that the three assailants were hired shooters and would be arrested soon as it had the CCTV camera footage from the farmhouse gate. They are going through the phone details of the killed BSP leader.
Bhardwaj, the richest candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls with declared assets of over Rs 600 crore, was shot twice. The post-mortem report revealed he was shot two rounds – one in the head and the second in the chest. The killers had entered the farmhouse on the pretext of meeting Bhardwaj to book a hotel in the farmhouse complex.
