JAMMU, Jan 30: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today alleged that people of J&K are worst hit in the absence of elected Government.
While mobilizing public opinion regarding BJP’s anti- people policies especially weaker sections of society, former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla while addressing public meetings in Dharap Panchayat of Gandhi Nagar constituency said that people of the J&K are facing lot of problems due to non-existence of elected Government. Their plights are going unheard. He said the people are fed up with the present system as no body listens to them.
Describing Congress Party as an instrument of service to the people and having always worked for upliftment and well being of the people keeping aside their caste, colour, region or religion, Bhalla said that Congress Party has always defeated the autocratic behaviour of those who believe in suppressing or oppressing and victimizing the masses or opponents while in power. He said that Congress has always been desirous to take everyone on board with regard to equal development of all sections of society, has determination to address issues confronting people of J&K.
Bhalla said despite promises by the Union and J&K Government to work hard for the upliftment of economically weaker section of society by providing monetary assistance to senior citizens, widows and people with disability, over one lakh pension cases are pending in Jammu division.
He expressed concern over protest of members of the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) who have threatened to surrender their weapons if the Government fails to release their pending salaries immediately. He regretted that VDC members serve as ‘security arch’ to defend remote and hilly villages against terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir but they have not been paid salaries for the past over eight months.
Charging BJP with pursuing anti-weaker sections policies, Bhalla said that Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) are the worst victims of the oppressive means adopted by Party to remain in power. He recalled that during previous tenure of Congress since 2002 to 2014, various steps were taken for the upliftment of the weaker sections especially SCs and OBCs.
He alleged that after BJP attained power in 2014, all policies and programmes for the socio-economic growth of weaker sections have been stalled due to anti-poor mindset of BJP leadership for them.
