JAMMU, Mar 25: The ongoing hunger strike of Sarpanchs and Panchs under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference entered the second day here today.
“It is unfortunate that we are on hunger strike for the past two days and nobody from the Government has bothered to approach us with any sort of assurance,” Shafiq Mir, Conference chairman, told.
He said, “we are elected representatives and have been forced to adopt an agitational path for our rights and genuine demands”.
“This clearly shows that the Government has no serious approach and concrete solution for the Panchayat members, who are facing hardships due to not being empowered,” he added.
Protesting Panchayat members are demanding empowerment and security to the members in view of threats from militants.
