JPDCL removes 125 illegal connections

JAMMU, Jan 11: Continuing its inspection drive, Electric Division-III, Jammu of Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) today raided various houses in Janipur, Roop Nagar, Bantalab and adjoining areas during which 125 illegal connections were removed.
The inspection team was headed by Divya Gupta, Assistant Engineer and was comprised of Junior Engineers Bandana Manhas, Kailash Bhagat, Rakesh Lochan Junior Engineer and other field officials. The drive was conducted on the directions of Neeraj Sharma, Executive Engineer, ED-III, JPDCL.
During the drive, inspection squads seized 190 electric cooking heaters, 300 incandescent lamps and other devices, while power supply to 18 clusters of jhuggies/temporary hutments, which were using power illegally, was disconnected.
Many consumers were booked for using extra service line illegally for drawing power for their heavy load consuming appliances as well as some were booked for by-passing meters, whose meter has recorded reading far lower than their actual electricity consumption. Defaulters were imposed a fine, assessed as per gadgets installed in their houses to the tune of Rs 4.50 lakhs which has been included in their electricity bills.
The Executive Engineer, ED-III warned the erring consumers that they shall be booked under Section-95 of Electricity Act where under whoever, dishonestly tape the power lines or tampers/or destroys a meter or uses electricity for the purpose other than for which the usage of electricity was authorized shall be punishable with imprisonment for term which may extend to 3-years or fine or both.
Further, he again appealed to the general public to avoid the using of cooking heaters and un-registered load to reduce the damage rate of power transformers.
