How can, for as many as 28 sports disciplines, a number of mere 77 coaches be considered sufficient is what has been asked by the Division Bench of the High Court and has, therefore, directed the authorities for proper assessment of the needs of these sports and monitoring of the relevant projects to be properly ensured. In respect of sports requirements , the existing infrastructure and preparations of whatever hues are quite insufficient and scant to befit the vast area and the potential of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This aspect has continuously been ignored rather not kept on priorities by the successive Governments.
When various sports projects and connected infrastructure, underway presently, would be completed too is not known which has been felt by the Divisional Bench. Even court monitoring was not yielding the desired results which showed lack of proper assessment, no culture of fixing of time bound targets and proper monitoring. Not only in sports of cricket but in almost all disciplines, besides other lacunae , there were no proper trained and sufficient coaches and how could under these circumstances, sports in the UT achieve a take off stage?
