RAJOURI, Mar 21: An impressive `Bhairon’ procession was taken out in the township of Rajouri here today.
A large number of people participated in the procession which started near Sanatan Dharam Sabha during afternoon. A local youth played as `Bhairon’ by wearing back clothes and painting his body as black. In almost similar attire of ‘Bhairon dev’ , this youth was leading the procession. Drum beaters also accompanied the procession.
They were raising slogans in praise of Bhairon Dev and after passing through various markets and streets of the town, the procession culminated at the place of its origin. This is unique procession taken out in this town on the eve of Holi every year. It is said that about hundred year ago, this areas was hit by famine. The people of the area were facing starvation. The locals went to a Sadhu living in the nearby jungle. He told them to make Bhairon Dev happy and take out his procession. After this everything will be alright. It is said that things started improving with this act and since then every year such procession is now taken out in this area for the last many decades.
