JAMMU, Dec 20: Three-day 14th JK Science Congress commenced today at Jammu University with a formal inaugural function and participation of Vice-Chancellors of various universities in J&K.
Kashmir University Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad, who was chief guest on the occasion, stressed for strong and closer collaboration among various university and research institutions in terms of sharing their resources. He called upon the scientists and researchers to focus on the usage of Bio resources available in JK and Ladakh UT’s. He also highlighted the importance of Geo resources, in which Himalayan glaciers should be carefully preserved for longer periods. Click here to watch video
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, in his presidential address, said that University is holding this Science Congress for the 7th time and there will be special Vice Chancellors’ session. He said the Congress will encompass the societal problem on Social, Environmental and Science. Listing the UN 17 sustainable development goals, he strongly emphasized that it’s our duty that by 2030 these goals be achieved and science need to play an important role for such sustainable developments.
Talat Parvez Rohella, Secretary to Govt Higher Education Department, J&K, in his address, said the young researchers need to learn the technical skills in which around 52 percent of research is focused on Artificial Intelligence.
Earlier Prof Naresh Padha, Organising Secretary of 14th JK Science Congress, dwelt in detail about various contours of Science, Technology and Innovative Council. He further said that more than 450 delegates from 16 disciplines shall present their research work and shall also be judged for their best oral and poster award.
Day first of JK Science Congress also witnessed plenary talk by Dr Dinesh Srivastav, Homi Bhabha Chair Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies Campus, Bengaluru. Prof Roopma Gandotra, Co-organizing Secretary presented a formal vote of thanks. Prof Shashi Prabha conducted proceedings of the function.
Among others present on the occasion, include Prof Ashok Aima, VC Central University of Jammu; Prof R K Sinha, VC, SMVDU; Prof Anju Basin, VC Cluster University, Jammu; Prof K S Risam, VC, SKAUST, Jammu; Deans, Directors, Officers, Faculty members from Jammu Universities and other Universities, students and scholars.
Dignitaries on the dais also released abstract book of the 14th JK Science Congress.
