New Delhi, Mar 18 : The 23rd Edition of the National Tourism Awards, for the year 2011-12, was held today at a glittering ceremony in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. These awards are presented by the Ministry of Tourism, New Delhi for acknowledgment of excellence in the tourism industry.
Jammu & Kashmir was conferred with two awards – one for the comprehensive development of Tourism in the State and the second for Royal Springs Golf Course as the most tourism-friendly course.
Pranab Mukherjee, President, was the chief guest on the occasion who personally gave the awards to winners in all categories. Chiranjeevi, Minister of State for Tourism, Government of India presided over the function which was also attended, among others, by the Secretary Tourism, Government of India, Parvez Dewan.
The awards were received by Atal Dulloo, Commissioner Secretary to Government, J&K also present were Abid Maqbool, Deputy Director Tourism, Kashmir and Pamela Tickoo, Tourist Officer, New Delhi.
In the event-related brochure, the Ministry has echoed the diverse tourism potential of the State and also applauded the Government’s successful implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
