JAMMU, Oct 11: SOG Jammu and District Police Jammu achieved a major success when it thwarted the plot of the drug peddlers of smuggling huge consignment of Poppy straw from Kashmir to other parts of the country by arresting two drug peddlers at Narwal and Bagh-e-Bahu with huge quantity of Poppy straw.
“A joint team of police post Narwal (led by Incharge police post Narwal, SI Khyatimaan Khajuria) and SOG Jammu (led by SI Arjun Magotra) while on routine checking, signaled the driver of the truck bearing registration number JK05A 9105 to stop his truck few meters before the naka point but both the driver and co driver tried to escape from the spot,” SP Operations Jammu, Sandeep Mehta said, adding, after a hot chase police managed to arrest the co driver of the vehicle but the driver of the truck managed to escape from the spot.
The SP said on checking, 707 kg of Poppy straw was recovered from the truck. He said that the driver and co-driver of the truck were identified as Bashir Ahmed Khan son of Mohd Farooq Khan of Baramulla and Mohd Ashraf Lone son of Abdul Jabar Lone of Uri (Baramulla), respectively. “A case FIR number 264/2019 under Section 8/15/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at police station Bahu Fort and further investigation initiated,” he added.
The officer said that in another operation, SOG Jammu and sleuths of police station Bagh-e-Bahu intercepted one truck bearing registration number JK05B-7138 which was loaded with Gypsum. He said when the truck was searched thoroughly 32 bags weighing about 800 kilograms of Poppy straw was found concealed inside the gypsum material, which was immediately seized and the accused person namely Sayeed Tasaduq Hussain son of Jumma Shah of Boniyar, Baramulla was arrested.
“A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at police station Bagh-e-Bahu and further investigation is going on,” he added.
