SRINAGAR, Oct 7: The Kashmiri students who have qualified for the counseling session of the Bachelors’ in Engineering through lateral entry in various colleges of Jammu have demanded a centre in Kashmir.
The students have cleared the written test and had to undergo counseling before confirming admission in Government College of Engineering and Technology or an affiliated college. The students said that the situation was not conducive for them to travel outside the valley and appealed authorities to arrange a separate counseling centre in the valley.
Asif Ahmad a student told Excelsior that his counseling is scheduled on October 9. “The situation is unfavorable as the Valley is under lockdown for last two months. I don’t know how can students reach there. The authorities should make an alternative arrangement for the Kashmiri students,” he said, adding that nearly 50 percent of the Kashmiri students have missed the exams.
Over 100 students of the State have appeared for the examinations that were held on September 15 this year. However, majority of the students from the valley did not appear in the examinations owing to the uncertain situation that developed after the abrogation of State’s special status and its bifurcation into two Union Territories.
