NEW DELHI, Aug 1: Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) is expediting the process of making Governments appointments on compassionate grounds in various departments, because this is not only an issue related to administration and public interest, but also a human issue to help the survivors of the bereaved families who lost an earning member before he or she could reach the age of retirement.
This was stated here today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh after handing over appointment letters to some of the survivor- candidates selected on the basis of compassionate grounds in the DoPT. He described this as one of the major achievements within the first two months of the Modi Government 2.0, accomplished by resolving a long pending issue within a short span of time, for which the bereaved families of the deceased employees had been waiting for several years.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, he felt personally gratified to note that the process of appointments on compassionate grounds which had been held up for over seven years, has now been revived, to be carried forward on regular basis, from time to time. He said, most of these appointment letters handed over today were for such applicants whose families were facing severe economic crunch and penury conditions after having lost the earning member of the family during service. He congratulated his colleagues and staff in DoPT for having revived this long pending process, on his personal insistence.
While conveying his good wishes to the new appointees, Dr Jitendra Singh hoped that they would work hard and make a meaningful contribution in the administrative and governance system, which will also be the real tribute to their elders or dear ones whose life was unfortunately cut short while being in service and in whose place they were receiving a Government job, at a time when securing a government job is extremely difficult and tedious. He said, this reflects the Modi Government’s commitment to help such families in meeting their livelihood needs.
The appointments made today were against the vacancies that had arisen from time to time since the year 2012 onwards. In total, applications had been received for 18 vacancies, out of which 9 appointments were made today on compassionate ground, but based on merit to the most deserving dependents. A Sub-Committee and finally a Screening Committee were constituted to physically verify both the merit as well as the economic condition of the applicant candidates.
