JAMMU, July 30: The Computed Tomography (CT) Scan machines at Government Medical College (GMC) are not working leaving the patients, even of emergency cases and poor, to face hardships and visit private players.
This was stated by Puneet Singh Jamwal, president Civil Society for Development (CSD) in a press conference here today.
Jamwal said that another CT scan unit working on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode has been installed at GMC and it is running round the clock.
“It is a matter of shame that a unit belonging to GMC laying defunct while the another by some private firm accommodated inside GMC hospital is running round the clock causing a big loss to Government exchequer,” he maintained.
Jamwal questioned the need of installing a simple CT machine under PPP mode inside the hospital as there are already a number of such machines in private diagnostic centres in and around Jammu city.
“The major sufferers are the below poverty line people as previously they were provided 100 per cent relief from fee from GMC which has now reduced to 50 percent under PPP mode and that too after hefty attestations from HoD, HoU and Medical Superintendent,” Jamwal informed.
He urged the Governor Malik to intervene as GMC is the biggest heath centre in Jammu and its erosion will lead directly impact people of Jammu division.
