Sir,
As per historical evidence, India has been a very attractive centre of tourism since long and the tourists from different countries of the world have been visiting the country. The main reasons for visiting India include pligrimage, trade, favourable climate and research on socio-cultural aspects of the society. In every state there is one or another attraction of tourism and the state of Jammu and Kashmir occupies an important place in tourism. It is well known to all that the Kashmir valley and the cold desert of Ladakh are the epicentres of tourism in our state. This tourism has been serving as a significant source of employment for the people of Kashmir valley.
But the quantum of tourism has been decreasing significantly since last three decades due to unusual spurt of terrorism. As the terrorists started killing tourists,it is very natural that none would like to visit Kashmir for getting killed. Though, many tourists might have been harrassed and killed, yet I can’t forget the very shocking incident of killing of a young South Indian boy in Anantnag district of Kashmir last year. In this case,a South Indian family including a young boy and his parents came to visit the Paradise of Kashmir, but were pushed to hell when their vehicle was stonned leading to killing of the young boy. Consequently, the poor parents (tourists) had to return home with the dead body of their child. Under such conditions, none would like to visit our Kashmir.
What to think of others,we the people of Jammu division can’t dare visit Kashmir. According to my own experience,it is easier to visit Sri Lanka than to visit Kashmir valley the part of our own state. Hospitality is the basic principle of tourism. So, it is important to think over the matter and change our behaviour towards the tourists. One of the basic principles of religion is ” Athiti devo bhava” meaning ” the guest should be treated like a God”and the same should be followed by all people of world.
