Training programme on Guava maturity

JAMMU, Feb 6: The Division of Fruit Science, SKUAST-J today organized one day training programme at Rainfed Research Sub Station for sub-tropical fruits.
Dr. Parshant Bakshi, Principal Investigator of the project highlighted the importance of maturity standards for getting better price of the produce if harvested at proper stage of maturity. The farmers and progressive orchardists were educated about crop pattern of Guava crop for harvesting quality production of fruits for fetching good price in market due to its better quality attributes.
Dr. V. K. Wali briefed the farmers on the importance of Guava as an emerging fruit crop of Jammu subtropics. He also discussed about the importance of Guava in human nutrition. Dr. Akash Sharma discussed about the organic fertilization of guava helpful in improving yield and quality of fruit while Dr. DeepJi Bhat discussed about the newly introduced improved and high yielding cultivars of Guava which are under evaluation. Different techniques used for finding the maturity indices in Guava were demonstrated to farmers.
Dr. Neeraj Gupta discussed about the value added products like jelly, juice, jam, squash, candy prepared from Guava.
Lastly, the scientists of SKUAST-J answered about the queries and problems of farmers related to Guava cultivation in there areas.
