SRINAGAR, Feb 4: A woman who was allegedly burnt by her husband and in-laws for demanding dowry succumbed to her injuries at the SMHS hospital here. Police has already registered an FIR in the case and the husband of the woman has been arrested.
The woman identified as Tasleema, wife of Ghulam Mohiuddin Rather, resident of Chattergam-Budgam and married at Ichgam-Budgam breathed her last at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar. Tasleema, mother of two children (aged 4 years and 18 months) had suffered serious burn injuries and was admitted to the SMHS hospital on January 27.
Her parents and relatives had alleged that she was burnt by her in-laws as they demanded more dowries from the family.
Meanwhile, talking to Excelsior, Station House Officer, Budgam, Imtiyaz Ahmad said the investigations are in full swing in the case, adding the concern for the police at this time is to ensure that there is no law and order problem in the area.
Fatima Jan, sister of the victim said that Tasleema was married eight years back. She said that despite paying dowry to the entire satisfaction Tasleema’s in-laws used to harass her on one pretext or the other. She alleged that Tasleema was burnt as the family could not fulfill the demand for more dowries.
