JAMMU, Jan 31: Bahu Fort Development Committee (BFDC) today held a protest demonstration against Government, Forest and Revenue Departments for assisting the land mafia in grabbing the forest land of Maha Maya city forest.
The activists and members of BFDC raised slogans against the Government and burnt the effigy of the Forest Minister.
Addressing the gathering, Rajeev Charak, president, BFDC said that the entire forest land of Maha Maya City Forest which comes under DFO (Urban), Jammu has been encroached by the Land mafia rapidly with the help of Forest and Revenue Departments.
DFO (Territory), Jammu is also involve in the racket of thousand Kanals of forest land, which has been encroached by the land mafia at village Raika, Bahu-Fort, Bathindi, Sunjwan, Chatta, Bermini, Rati-Saradi etc, he alleged.
Rajeev Charak said that the Gujjars of these areas are cultivating the said forest land to make their both ends meet, but the land mafia are grabbing and selling the same with full support of the Forest and Revenue Departments. This tyranny and oppression of the land mafia and Forest Department has affected the lives of Gujjar community very badly, he added.
He demanded judicial enquiry into the same so that these types of scandals could be traced out and the delinquent should be punished under law.
Among others present were Baldev Raj, Chairman, Ishant Gupta, spokesperson, Krishan Lal Sharma, vice president, Hardesh Khokhar, Rameshwar Pajgotra, Krishan Chander, Vivek Kumar Patyal, Satish Fangotra, etc.
