JAMMU, Jan 29: Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) will be presenting the 8th edition of the Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’, the premier classical, Sufi and folk music festival of Jammu & Kashmir State from February 1, 2013. The festival is expected to be witnessed by over 35000 students, music connoisseurs and general public. The festival was started in the year 2006 for one week and over the years it has grown as the biggest and most prestigious music festival of not only the J&K State but also the country.
Speaking to the media in the Press Conference held at the Press Club of Jammu, Abhay Rustum Sopori, the eminent Santoor maestro and music composer, and Secretary SaMaPa, revealed that the fortnight long ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ 2013 will be held from 1st to 15th February 2013 featuring around 35 presentations at more than 25 different venues.
He said the festival will also feature some special presentations like concerts at Jammu Press Club specially designed for the journalists and media personalities of J&K. As part of the Cultural Social Responsibility Initiative of SaMaPa, concerts will also be held at the Border areas like Khour, RS Pora, etc.
SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013 will feature recitals by Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Abhay Rustum Sopori (Santoor), Ragini Rainu (Sufi Vocal), Classical Ensemble by young music students from J&K, Prof Anupam Mahajan (Sitar), Pt Bhola Nath Mishra, Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Ojesh Pratap Singh (Vocal) Ajay Prasanna (Flute), Santosh Nahar (Violin), Danish Aslam Khan (Sarod), Durjay Bhaumik, Mithilesh Jha, Pradip Sarkar, Sachin Sharma, Sarit Das (Tabla), Damador Lal Ghose, Bua Ditta, Ravi Sharma, (Harmonium), Abid Hussain (Sarangi) Kamal Sharma, Darbari Lal (Dholak), Jagmeet Singh (Guitar) and others. The festival will also feature Talks by eminent music critics and musicologists like Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra and Pandit Ravindra Misra, amongst others including various presentations by different folk musicians of J&K featuring Kashmiri, Dogri, Pahadi and Gojri music recitals.
This year onwards SaMaPa is also adding a social cause to the festival and will focus on one social issue every year creating social awareness at grass root level. SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013 will focus on the awareness of Child Labour problem in J&K.
The Festival will be inaugurated on 1st Feb at Press Club of Jammu at 4:00 pm featuring Sufi vocal by Ragini Rainu. The programmes thereafter will be held at various institutions and organizations in Jammu.
