JAMMU, Jan 29: Erstwhile Doda district migrants today staged a protest at Mubarak Mandi against the apathy of both State and Central Governments towards them.
The protestors said though they are on dharna for last eight years at Mubarak Mandi but the Government has completely neglected them as their demand of treating them at par with Kashmiri migrants has not been conceded till date and no steps have been taken for their relief and rehabilitation by the Government.
Addressing the demonstration Som Nath general secretary of the Doda Migrant Committee said that 251 families who stand migrated over two decades back and whose verifications stand completed by the Relief and Rehabilitation Organisation have till date been deprived of cash assistance and other facilities. These families are at the verge of starvation and no one from Government is bothered to bring them out of the present situation, he added.
He said it is a cause of concern that the Government has not registered 251 migrant families even after the verification.
The protestors demanded relief for Doda migrants at par with Kashmiri migrants.
Earlier a general body meeting of the Committee was held under the chairmanship of Som Nath its general secretary. It elected Rakesh Kumar Sharma as the chairman of the new committee which will be followed by election of other office bearers.
