Three killed in road accidents

JAMMU, Dec 20: Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in Mishriwala area of city outskirts.
According to a police official, a man identified as Raj Kumar son of Manga Ram, resident of Raipur-Satwari was killed on the spot while his pillion rider, Rishi Kumar son of Surjeet Kumar of Raipur-Satwari sustained serious injuries when a bike on which they were travelling was hit by an unknown vehicle at Mishriwala Morh on Jammu-Akhnoor Road, last night.
The injured person and body of the deceased were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu. Today, after postmortem the body of deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites while the injured man was responding to the treatment.
Another mishap occurred this morning at Purkhoo area falling under the jurisdiction of police station Kanachak, when a bullet bike hit a scooty. In the mishap, Jagir Singh (72) son of Kuki Ram, resident of Garhi, received serious injuries. He was shifted to GMCH Jammu from where his attendant took him to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he died at 3 PM. His body was shifted to mortuary room of GMCH Jammu this evening.
Meanwhile, a man identified as Nanak Chand (45) son of Bachiter Ram, resident of Mishriwala, who had received serious head injuries on December 3 when a scooty on which he was travelling was hit by a speeding car at Mishriwala, succumbed to his injuries late last night at GMCH Jammu, where he was undergoing treatment since the day of the accident. Today, after postmortem his body was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
The official said all the deceased persons died due to head injuries. “Had they wore helmet, they would have alive today,” he said, adding “People wear helmet only to escape from being challaned by the police. They have to realize that helmet is for their own protection and police is not their enemy but well-wisher”.
