KARGIL, Nov 9: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan today took up the matter of snow clearance beyond Zero Point towards Sonamarg to handover to Project VIJAYAK of BRO and shifting administrative control of Zojila Pass up to Sonamarg to district administration Kargil with Governor Satya Pal Malik.
The CEC said that the Project BEACON of BRO from Sonamarg side always delays in the process of snow clearance which results in chaos and early closure and late opening of Srinagar-Kargil National Highway. He has requested Governor for immediate allowing the maintenance and snow clearance of Zojila Pass to beyond Zero Point to Project VIJAYAK so that the people of Ladakh region do not suffer more.
He said that snow clearance and traffic towards Ladakh region experiences hurdles due to the dual control of administrations on Zojila pass as the half of the portion of it falls in the jurisdiction of Ganderbal Administration while half falls under Kargil administration. Most of the time the passengers suffer due to lack of coordination between the Ganderbal and Kargil administrations. He demanded immediate shifting of the administrative control of Zojila Pass up to Sonamarg to district administration Kargil for better management and smooth traffic movement.
It is pertinent to mention here that, on Tuesday the CEC visited Shaitan Nallah Gumri and took stock of the snow clearance work on the Kargil-Srinagar National Highway in the aftermath of the recent untimely snowfall. In order to overcome the slippery road conditions, the CEC gave on spot direction to Mechanical Department Kargil to put JCBs, recoveries, and tippers of so as to ensure smooth and hassle-free movement of vehicles.
The CEC also raised the issue of Zojila tunnel with Governor and sought his intervention in early resolution of the issue keeping in view the importance of tunnel.
