Doctors suspend work, protest in various distts

JAMMU, Oct 25: The strike of doctors and other para-medical staff continued in District Hospital Reasi on the 6th consecutive day, in protest against the illegal detention of a senior doctor in Police Station on the directions of Deputy Commission, Prasanna Ramaswamy while doctors at various district and sub district hospitals suspended work and staged protest demanding action against the DC Reasi.

The work in OPD, Operation Theatre, Wards and Labs in Reasi Hospital remained suspended, while the staff exempted the Emergency unit of the Hospital from the purview of the strike. The striking doctors said that they had given ultimatum to the District Administration to tender apology from the aggrieved Dr Ashwani Kumar Bhagat (Consultant Ortho) but they have not bothered about it. They said their indefinite strike will be continue. They urged upon the State Administration to take action against the DC Reasi for his behavior.
In Jammu, the doctors under the banner of Doctors Association Jammu and Medical College Teachers Association suspended work for an hour and held protest in support of the ongoing strike of the doctors at Reasi Hospital. They appealed to the Governor and Chief Secretary to take cognizance of the matter.
A DAJ spokesman said that strike was also observed at Sunderbani, Akhnoor, Rajouri, Nowshera, Poonch, Samba, Kathua, Ramban, Ram Nagar, Kishtwar, Banihal, Doda, Bhaderwah, Batote, Katra, Billawar, Sarwal, Gandhinagar and various other hospitals in the region. He said the strike will be continued during OPD hours even tomorrow.
NHM District Unit Doda also observed strike and demanded action against the DC Reasi, Parasanna Ramaswamy for his act of high handedness.
While rendering their support to Dr Ashwani, Resident Doctors’ Association of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, sought Governor’s intervention into the matter.
