JAMMU, Oct 12: All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (AKPC) today organized a Samoohik Yagnopavit to investiture the sacred thread to aspiring Kashmiri Pandits at a function held in here. The function involves the initiation and symbolically staging all the said Sanaskars and today seven Kashmiri Pandits were offered the sacred thread generally known as “Mekhla” by Pandits.
The function started October 10 with rituals of Devgun and Mehandiraat and culminated amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns on and culminated late last night.
Ravinder Raina, president ASKPC said this initiation, which marked the taking over of the charge of the student by the Guru, revolved around the establishment of connection between the student and Savitri through the Gayatri Mantra performed by the Guru and his teaching of this mantra. He added that his organistaion has been organizing this function considered to be the most important Sanaskar in Kashmiri Pandits since 1991 after mass exodus of the community which was started by Amarnath Vaishanvi and later continued by H L Chatta and R K Raina also.
Dr T K Bhat, general secretary of ASKPC said for last 28 years his organization has been steadfastly working on strengthening and maintaining the cultural and traditional anchors of Pandits through various events and functions.
The function was organized on two days at Sanaskriti Bhawan, Roop Nagar and hundreds of Pandits participated in it.
Another function was held in Kral Bab Ashram, Bantalab by Amar Balidan Trust in which the Yagnopavit ceremony of 18 Kashmiri boys was performed as per ancient Hindu traditions. All the representatives of the Trust led by its president, A K Raina participated in the function. Raina, while highlighting the importance of holding Samoohik Yagnopavit ceremonies said to keep the cultural and tradition alive performing of Yagnopavit Samaskar is must and hence various KP organizations came forward after mass exodus to perform Samohik Yagnopavit ceremonies.
The KP leaders Moti Kaul and Vijay Aima both ex president AIKS, Dr K L Choudhary, P L Koul Badgami, M L Malla, Ashwani Chrungoo president PK, Aryan Ramesh, Subash Chatta, Shiban Ji Bhat and Manmohan Koul were present on the occasion. They blessed children whose Yagnopavit ceremony was performed and asked them to keep their culture, tradition and Sanaskars alive.
