Yatra resumes from Jammu, 306 leave for holy cave

JAMMU, Aug 18: After remaining suspended yesterday, the Swami Amarnath Yatra resumed from here, today and 306 pilgrims left from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas to twin base camps of Baltal and Nunwan -Pahalgam in Kashmir Valley early this morning under tight security measures.
According to an Officer on yatra duty these pilgrims will leave for holy cave from their respective base camps early tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, on the 52nd day of darshan over 300 pilgrims paid obeisance to naturally formed Ice Lingam of Lord Shiva in the cave shrine of SwamiAmarnath situated at an altitude of 3880 meters in deep Himalayas  in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
He said 347 pilgrims paid obeisance to Ice Lingam from twin tracks of Baltal and Chandanwari today. Total 2,81.574 pilgrims performed darshan in the holy cave till date since the two month -long yatra started on June 28, he added.
He said the weather was cloudy during the day and it drizzled at a number of occasions since the morning on yatra routes but the yatra proceeded normally from both the tracks.
The Officer said that the rush of pilgrims has now decreased and only 80 to 100 yatris leave for cave shrine from twin tracks now. He said 81 pilgrims left for cave shrine from shortest Baltal track early this morning while only 80 Sadhus left for holy cave from the Nunwan -Pahalgam base camp via traditional and longest Chandanwari track.
Besides, the yatris having night halt at Sheshnag and Panjtarni also left for their onwards sojourn, he added.
It may be recalled that the two -month long yatra will culminate on Sawan Purnima falling on August 26 after the holy mace led by its sole custodian Mahant Deependra Giri reaches the cave shrine from its abode Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar Kashmir. The day also coincides with the Raksha Bandhan festival.
The holy mace has been kept for the darshan of devotees after Chharri Sathapana at Dashnami Akhara on Nagpanchmi and it will proceed for cave shrine on August 20.
The Chhari Mubarak enroute will perform darshan and pooja in the historic temple of Durga Nag in Srinagar, Shiv Temple of Pampore, Awantipora, Bijbehara, Sun temple of Mattan, Shiv Temple at Ganeshbal enroute to Pahalgam on the same day.
After reaching Pahalgam in the evening of August 20, the holy mace will stay there for two nights and leave for Chandanwari on August 22. From Chandanwari it will proceed to Sheshnag on August 23 and from Sheshnag it will leave for Panjtarni the last transit camp on way to holy cave on August 24. After a two days halt at Panjtarni, the holy mace will leave for cave shrine in the wee hours of August 26.
After performing day long pooja at the cave shrine, the Chhari Mubarak will return to Panjtarni in the evening where after staying for one night it will return to Pahalgam next day i.e August 27 and reach Pahalgam in the evening.  At Pahalgam the Sadhus will have a night stay and next morning after performing the rituals and immersion ceremonies in a traditional way in river Lidder and after serving the Kari Prashad to Sadhus the holy mace will leave for Dashnami Akhara Srinagar. With this the two -month long Swami Amarnath yatra will culminate.
