JAMMU, Aug 17: All Displaced Kashmiri United Forum (ADKUF) in its meeting here ,today held under the chairmanship of D N Kissu has expressed grave concern over dilly dallying tactics of election authorities in inclusion of names of displaced people in the voter lists of nine wards of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) from where they have been deleted for unknown reasons.
Addressing the meeting president of the Forum, P L Sudeshi said that this has been a deliberate attempt on the part of some vested elements in the administration who on behest of certain Kashmir centric leaders want to deprive the displaced people to cast their vote in civic elections for which they are entitled.
He said there is no logic in asking the displaced people to cast their vote in their respective municipal wards of Kashmir Valley as the displaced people live in Jammu for last three decades and under the civic body rules any person residing at any place has a right to cast his vote in Municipal elections for the development of his respective area.
Criticizing the decision, Prof G L Koul, advisor of the Forum said that there is no logic in the decision of State Election authorities. He said how the displaced people can vote in their respective wards in Valley when they are not residing there.
He said it is unfortunate that the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis names have been reportedly included in voter lists but the names of displaced people from Valley were deleted under a hatched conspiracy.
He warned that this will not be tolerated and in case the authorities fail to include the names of displaced people in their respective municipal wards in Jammu they will come to streets and launch a strong agitation.
Others who addressed the meeting included Phoola Bhat, B N Bhat, P L Razdan, C L Zutshi, Bal Ji and N N Dhar. They expressed concern over frequent power cuts in the Durga Nagar area and said despite paying the power tariff regularly the Government has failed to maintain power supply in the area.
