NC to strongly oppose any move to dilute Art 35-A: Rana

JAMMU, Aug 3: Provincial president of National Conference, Devinder Singh Rana (MLA) today warned  that his party will strongly resist  any such move to dilute Article 35-A of the Constitution.
Addressing a press conference here today, the NC leader without  naming any party said that a political organization is trying to revoke Article  35-A of the Constitution. The case is pending in the apex court.   He pointed out that Art 35-A  serve as bridge between the State and  the Centre and accords special status to the State.

While describing  Maharaja Hari Singh as great visionary ruler of the State, NC Provincial president said that the Late Maharaja enacted State Subject law in Jammu and Kashmir during 1927, to prevent  settlement of outsiders in the State. Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah brought a great revolutionary law pertaining to `Land to the Tillers’.  Due to these reforms the people of the state are prosperous  and every State subject has roof on his  head and able to earn meals with dignity.
Rana warned that any move to tinker with the Art 35-A will be disastrous for the State. He said in police recruitment and other jobs people from Punjab, Harayana, UP etc will also participate and our youth will not be able to get jobs.  ” It is our right to defend Art 35-A as it is connected with our identity,” NC Legislator maintained.
Referring to the Special Status of the State, Rana said the Article 35 A of the Constitution of India will have to be safeguarded and strengthened and urged upon the State Administration to use all the resources at  it’s disposal to defend Article 35- A. He said, there are apprehensions that State and the Centre will not plead for defending Art- 35 A in the Supreme Court and urged that State must address people’s aspirations from all the three regions.
At the same time the NC leader strongly urged upon the State Governor to identify the non-state subjects  and  throw them out of the State.  He also pleaded for no gender discrimination in the State Subject law.   When asked West Pak refugees are also non-state subjects, Rana said they are citizens of the country but non-state subjects. Govt of India must take decision about them.
On deportation of Rohingyas from Jammu Rana said,” Who brought them and who settled them here every body knows.  BJP was in power in the State for the last three years and is still here at the Centre. They  must deport them, who has stopped them doing so,” Rana remarked.
Several senior leaders,  Surjit Singh Slathia, Rattan Lal Gupta, Kashmir Singh, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Bimla Luthra, Brij Mohan, Vijay Lochan,  DS Jamwal, Abdul Gani Teli  and others were present.
Meanwhile, NC Women Wing Provincial president Satwant Kaur Dogra today said that Article 35-A is an endorsement of the wisdom of Maharaja Hari Singh and it was Maharaja’s foresightedness that he provided a shield of protection to his people in the form of State Subject law to retain the identity and heritage of our culture.
