MGNREGA employees extend strike by 96 hrs

JAMMU, July 13: All MGNREGA Employees’ Association of Jammu province today extended their strike by another 96 hours.
Talking to reporters here at the protest site, president of the Association, Sandeep Kalotra, said that their strike demanding regularization of their jobs, entered fifth day today. “We announced the extension of our strike/protest by further 96 hours”, he added.
Kalotra exclaimed that they will again take to streets and resume the path of agitation “We have put our demands so many times to the RDD higher authorities which have not been fulfilled till date. The Government is playing with the interests of youth and not paying any heed towards their demands and forcing them to take aggressive steps, which would be harmful for everyone.
He demanded Governor NN Vohra to pass directions to the RDD authorities to frame a job policy for MGNREGA employees. He said Government has framed a job policy for all contractual, consolidated, casual and daily rated workers working in various departments but it is unfortunate that the MGNREGA employees has been totally ignored by it.
Prominent among others present were general secretary, Tariq Zara, Mohd Aslam, Satwant Singh, Sajad, Happy and Abinash.
