Narcotics peddling trucker nabbed with 20 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, July 11: Satwari and Gadigarh police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ jointly foiled bid to make youth drug addicts with the arrest of a narcotics peddling trucker along with 20 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a joint team of Satwari Police Station and Gadigarh Police Post laid a naka on Dharab road and signaled an oil tanker bearing registration number JK02BG-0833 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot along with the vehicle towards Khwas Khan. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 20 kilograms of poppy straw from the possession of the trucker and arrested him.
The accused has been identified as Harjeet Singh alias Reshu, son of Prithi Pal Singh, a resident of Lower Gadigarh, Jammu.
During preliminary questioning, it came to fore that the accused had brought the consignment from Kashmir for selling among the youth in Jammu and its surrounding areas.
With his arrest, the police not only saved the youth from becoming drug addicts, but also saved their families from daily quarrels as it is understood that a drug addict create nuisance in family and society in general.
A case under FIR Number 113/18 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Satwari Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons indulged in this illegal trade practice.
Police team led by SHO Satwari Inspector Manjeet Singh and assisted by Incharge Gadigarh Police Post SI Gurupal Singh arrested the accused under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
