JAMMU, Apr 20: Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) has reiterated the demand that the Prime Minister’s rehabilitation package for exiled Pandits be revisited to meet the present day requirements as well as one time settlement of the community.
The demand was made by a delegation of the YAIKS which called on Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti here. It demanded that the community leadership be taken into confidence in this regard. The YAIKS has further stressed that the implementation of rehabilitation package be made time bound.
Stressing on political empowerment of the community at different levels, YAIKS said that this must be important component of each and every scheme meant for rehabilitation of exiled Pandits. The delegation made it clear to the CM that despite the pulls and pressures which the Government is facing to reverse the migration of KPs the Government has to overcome the same one way or the other to make rehabilitation process meaningful and everlasting.
The Chief Minister was also informed by the delegation that direct liaison will be developed with the civil society, stake holders of all the three regions through the interlocutors of YAIKS so that the community can remain connected with its roots in their motherland.
The delegation further stressed on full and purposeful implementation of employment component of PM’s package, treating them at par with other Kashmiri migrant employees till normalcy is restored and they also be provided reasonable living facilities as at present they are putting up in inhuman environment.
The delegation said that any failure in this regard would be the cause of fresh migration the apprehensions of which also loom large. It said hence the Government should act in a wise manner so that the initiative taken for the return of displaced Pandits’ do not go waste.
The other demands put forth included one time compensation in favour of youth who have become overaged , passage of Shrines and Temples Bill, enhancement of relief, two to four percent reservation in Central services and its educational institutions.
The delegation was led by R K Bhat president YAIKS and its other members included Padamshri Dr K N Pandita, A K Dewani, P L Koul Budgami, Pran Pandit, D N Bhat, B K Bhat, Sunil Koul, Manoj Handoo, Ajay Safaya, Sanjay Ganjoo, Kuldeep Pandita, Rakesh Fotedar, Ravinder Sharma and Rakesh Bachloo.
