Delegation of Christian Welfare Association meets Governor

JAMMU, Feb 14: An 11 member delegation of the All J&K Christian Welfare Association led by its State President S.M. Gill, former MLC, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today and expressed strong resentment about the burning of a Church at Nowshera in Rajouri district.
The delegation appealed to the Governor for immediate intervention to ensure reconstruction of their place of worship and compensation for their losses.
The delegation also informed the Governor about their other difficulties which included reservation in jobs and professional colleges for Christians; setting up of a Minority Commission in the State with due representation to the Christians; handing over of two Social Welfare Centres for the Christians situated at the Christian Colony Residency Road and Old Rehari in Jammu to the Christian Community; nominating a representative of the Christian Community to the State Legislature.
Governor lauded the notable role being played by the Christian Missionaries in the field of education and observed that he would address the Chief Minister about their demands.
Aijaz Ali Khan, former IGP also called on Governor and informed him about the work being done by him for securing development and restoration of peace and security in the area of Uri, his hometown.
Governor urged Khan to continue sustained efforts for promoting a peaceful environment which would be conducive for the development and welfare of the people of Kashmir and take all possible initiatives to particularly safeguard the interests of youth and ensure against their involvement in non-productive activities.
