JU organizes workshop on prevention of sexual harassment at workplace

JAMMU, Feb 14: The  Dire-ctorate of College Development Council, University of Jammu,  in collaboration with Internal Complaints Committee  against  Sexual Harassment (JUICCASH), JU,  organized a  gender  sensitization  workshop  on prevention of  sexual  harassment at workplace  for  University  and  College  administration.
Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to Chief Minister, was chief guest in the inaugural session of the workshop, which was attended by more than 300 persons,   including Deans, Directors and Heads of   Departments, Principals of   colleges and others.
Prof. Mattoo emphasized on the need to protect the dignity of women in the society and higher education institutions. He  referred  to various  social  media  campaigns which are  bringing  about  the   expression of  these  issues. He stressed on importance of safe work places for women.
On this occasion, dignitaries also released a booklet containing JU’s policy on prevention of   sexual harassment.

JU Vice-Chancellor  Prof  R D Sharma gave a detailed  overview  of how  Jammu University got  into the mode  of  working  out  modalities  for putting  in place a  mechanism  to prevent  sexual harassment  at  work place.
Earlier, Prof. Rajni Kant, Director, Colleges Development Council, JU,  acknowledged  the role  of   College  administrators  and  persons  for  developing  a very  strong  academic  and  professional  chord with  the university.
Prof  Rajni Dhingra, Presiding Officer, JUICCASH,  elaborated  on the role  of  the  Committee Against Sexual Harassment in  the University of  Jammu and described  the various  provisions  related  to  prevention of  sexual harassment  at  work place  at the  national level.
Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, JU, presented   formal vote of thanks.
Later in the day, five technical sessions were held.  In the first session, sr Additional Advocate General   Seema Khajuria Shekhar deliberated in detail on the legal aspects of the issue. Dr Vandhana Sharma from Central University of Jammu reflected on the issue in the academic settings. Dr Bimaldeep Singh from GNDU, Amritsar presented the   perspective on sexual harassment of women as   violation of the right to equality.  Dr Kavita Suri, Director, DLL  and  Member, J&K State  Commission  for  Women,  deliberated  on the  sociological  aspects  of  the issue.
The workshop concluded with valedictory session in which Prof Keshav Sharma, DAA, JU was the chief guest while Prof Jigar Mohd. Dean Research Studies was the guest of honour.
