JAMMU, Dec 23: Bringing Jammu & Kashmir at par with national level regarding paramedical teaching and training programmes, the Governmenrt has taken many reformative measures, with regard to paramedical students of the State.
A series of Government orders issued by Health and Medical Education Department have specified calendar of activities to be followed in respect of admissions for the paramedical training courses in Government / private institutes.
As per this new calendar, the admission to various paramedical courses has been regulated during the month of June – August in Jammu division and December – February in Kashmir division.
The classes will start from September 1 of every year for Jammu division and December 1 for Kashmir division. Examination schedule has been fixed, to be held twice yearly is September – October and April – May for Jammu & Kashmir divisions respectively. It is important to note that prior to this notification, there was no time frame for admission to various courses, thus, creating a sense of suspicion among the students.
The Government has done away with the requirement of minimum age for entry into any paramedical courses. Before this order, the lower age limit for admission to different courses was 16 and 17 years because of which the students used to lose one precious year of their academic year.
In a mile stone decision of far reaching consequences, male candidates too have been allowed to seek admission to the G.N.M Training courses in a ratio of 25 : 75 (Male : Female) of the total availability of seats in the G.N.M courses in AMT / GNM /ANMT / ANM Schools. Pertinent to mention that prior to this order male candidates were not allowed to pursue GNM course in J&K State where as the same was permitted in other States, thereby private institutes situated outside the State used to lure these vulnerable candidates.
The Female Multipurpose Health Worker / Male Multipurpose Health Worker (FMPHW / MMPHW) Diploma holders will now be eligible for Lateral Entry into the training course of GNM Courses.
By virtue of these orders, the State of J&K will now have more trained paramedical staff which will go a long way in improving paramedical health care in the State.
President of J&K State Paramedical Council Dr Samia Rasid, vice president Dr Sunanda Raina, Controller Examination Dr A S Bhatia and Dr Sandeep Singh, Registrar of the Council implemented reforms in the State under the guidance of Health and Education Minister Bali Bhagat.
