LUCKNOW: Amid reports of names missing from voters’ lists in all the 25 districts that went to polls on Sunday, around 20 per cent of the total 1.29 crore electorate cast their vote till 1100 hrs in the second phase of civic body elections.
Interestingly, in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi, the name of Virbhadra Nishad was absent from the voters’ list. Nishad was one of the persons who proposed Mr Modi’s name in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
A report from Ghaziabad said that the name of former election commissioner GVG Krishnamurti, too, was missing from the voters’ list in Ghaziabad.
Polling, by and large peaceful, commenced on Sunday at 0730 hrs amid tight security arrangements. It will conclude at 1700 hrs.
Polling is being held for 3,601 wards in 189 local bodies in which 24,638 candidates are in the fray. (AGENCIES)
